Merry Christmas & SomeThings That Made Me Happy Since I Last Blogged

Before my happy things a quickish update on our life.

As some of you may know Jason and I have decided it is time to move forward with adoption.  We decided we were going to work with LDSFS this spring and filed this summer.  After months of getting no where and feeling uncomfortable with the situation we have decided that we are going to pursue adoption through foster care instead. We knew we were doing the right thing filing for adoption but just felt like something wasn't right  when we initially decided to go with LDSFS. I tried to shrug it off for quite some time because I didn't want to have to give up any more hopes and dreams along the way.

I think most people don't understand the stages of grief you go through when you can't have your own children and decide to adopt (I'm not sure I even understand the heartbreak I have felt through all of this).  It took me awhile to give in to foster care adoption because I didn't want to give up the slight chance that I could be there when my baby was born if we found birth parents willing to let me do so.  I dreamed of having an open adoption with loving birth parents who want nothing but the best for their child and that is why they decided to place them.  Now I have to try to not feel like we are stealing someones children and have to accept that chances of having a loving open adoption are slim to none (probably far closer to none).  I have also had to accept that the chances of us receiving an infant are slim to none and if we do they will likely either have alcohol or drug exposure.  There is far more than I could ever even begin to explain but those are the big ones. So it has been an overwhelming few weeks and I have just focused every day on making it out of bed and keeping myself together.

I think I am starting to do a little bit better and have completely embraced foster care adoption.  There are so many children from infants to older children who need love and I know that my kids are waiting for me and I want nothing more than to find them and start giving them the life they deserve.

Jason's Uncle Robb and Aunt Kari just adopted four kids through a foster care agency here in Fresno and we decided we would meet with them.  From the minute we met with them two weeks ago everything felt so peaceful and I knew without a doubt we were doing the right thing.  When we started our meeting I wanted to cry tears of joy because it felt like something on this road to becoming parents finally felt right.  However along with this joy came a very overwhelming load of stress.  There apparently is a huge need for foster and adoptive parents in the county right now and they are moving A LOT faster than I ever expected they would.

We have to have our home ready to accept two children boys or girls from newborn to six.  This has led to us scrambling the last few weeks to gather everything we need.  We have had a lot of support from family and friends and I can't express how thankful I am.  We got bunk beds, a cradle, some clothes, books, toys, and bought just about everything you could think!  We have spent FAR too much at Target lately, but I couldn't think of a better thing for our money to go to!  We still need a crib, and will probably end up buying one after Christmas because we had a few people offer us their crib but they are drop side and to be home study approved they have to meet some very specific specifications.  But it is a totally worthwhile investment and if we don't end up needing it because the kids are too old we can find a good home for it.  It has been amazing how quickly all of this has come together.  If all goes as planned we will have our first foster placement by the first week of January.  Oh so exciting! It has been far too long of a wait to have children in our home!

That is really all that we have been up to...still working and going to school and trying to keep it all together.  So onto things that have made me happy since my last blog...

  • Thanksgiving at my parents house
  • Date with Loralye to the Merry go Round and Disney Store
  • Trip to Long Beach with James, Julie, Adam & Brittney
  • Seeing Anne & John on said Long Beach trip

Ten Things That Made Me Happy Since I Last Blogged

It has been another very busy few weeks.  I cannot wait for my four day Thanksgiving weekend!  It is going to be fabulous!

There isn't really anything exciting to report so I'll just get on with my 10 things.

    1. Jason finishing applying for internships...he's basically amazing and I'm sure they will all be fighting over him
    2. Hanging out with the fam on Sunday.  It's been a few weeks since we were both sick and it was nice to just see everyone and potentially make plans to hang out with the sisters next week.
    3. Hanging out with Aaron, Lauren, Loralye and the rest of the Call clan.  Loralye had to show everyone her princess fridge!
    4. Watching Jonathan and getting all of his snuggles.
    5. Dinner with Aaron & Kristen
    6. Last night of one more class.  Three more months until I'm DONE...I think I can, I think I can, I think I can. (Until I start my masters in the fall haha)
    7. Seeing Kat & Tiffany at InTouch...I miss those lovely ladies being in my life every day!
    8. The rain finally came to see me! Now if only it would snow...then maybe I'd feel at home.
    9. Finding slippers to fit Jason's giant feet that weren't $9088924239.
    10. Being able to help Grandma get Grandpa the elevated bed he needed.  The relief on her face was such an amazing thing!

TenThings That Made Me Happy Since I Last Blogged...plus a little

If there was an award for worst blogger ever, I would win it!  That must be like the award for giving the worst massages ever.  At least if I am going to be the worst, I am going to be the best worst there is!

Today this blog really is for me and I just had to find time to post the happy thoughts.  I am having a difficult time with the hand I have been dealt in this life right now and need to focus on the good in any way possible.
A lot has gone on in the past month or so since I last found some time to post.  Basically all I can say is good riddance October!!!  It was the busiest month ever.  I think had I not started a new job it wouldn't have seemed so overwhelming, but trying to absorb everything I need to means that I have little mental energy left for anything else.  I have to say that I am happy with the way everything turned out and I managed to find a way fit everything in.

So since there was a lot going on in October, there is a lot that made me happy.  Since it's hard to remember all the little things, I will try to highlight all the big things.

    1. My parents coming for the weekend
    2. Date night with Aaron & Lauren, Phil & Ashley
    3. Loralye & Jonathan... (self explanatory)
    4. Kristen coming to help me get ready for the baby shower

    10. Seeing Sarah & Nate
    11. All of Jasons hard work getting everything ready while I was working
    12. Andy & Will coming for the weekend
    13. Being the only person in my training class to score two 100's on my quality & accountability eval. (I might have a competition problem...I am the first to admit I have to be the best at everything, and I mean EVERYTHING)
    14. Jason submitting the first of his internship applications
    15. The ward primary program going so well.  The kids were fabulous!

    It's been forever...

    since I blogged here!

I honestly just figured this blog was done for because we don't have anything super exciting to blog about like super cute babies or fabulous vacations and we are both awful about remembering the camera when we do go anywhere even remotely exciting.  I figured I would probably just create a new blog when we finally had something exciting to blog about, but apparently I was wrong...  During our trip to Vegas in June for my wonderful mom's 50th birthday I had numerous people give me a hard time about being an awful blog updater and my cousin Denise convinced me she would read my blog and wanted updates. So here ya are my dear.  I'm back! (We'll see how long this really lasts, Denise you may need to poke and prod more often.)

I still don't feel like we have anything incredibly exciting going on in our lives which deserves a blog post, so I'm going to start something I have convinced a few people to do but have never done myself.  10 things that made me happy this week!  I could use some reminders of the good in my life sometimes so maybe this is the one I need. :)

First I'll start with an update since the last real update was announcing we were moving to Fresno.

We are here...it hasn't changed since I left it.  I am not a fan of Fresno and haven't been in a very long time, but there are some great opportunities and adventures here so it will suffice for the time being.  (Which will be at least another year) It will actually be hard to leave when the time comes because I love being so close to Jason's family and I don't want to move away from my Liver (Kristen) and the other friends I have gotten back in touch with. So I may make it sound awful sometimes because it isn't where I want to live, but it is pretty great.

Jason is getting so close to being done with school!  He has another year of school which he will start in August and then he has a year long internship.  We don't know where his internship will be, but he does start applying in October and knows where he would like to go.  His number one choice is Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake.  He is really interested in Pediatric Psychology and they have some amazing things going on there.  He is appeasing me and applying on the east coast (Boston, NYC, upstate NY, DC etc).  It would only be a year and I can't think of a better excuse to hang out there.  (Everyone and anyone could come and visit and have a free place to stay and a tour guide!)  He is also applying to any APA accredited internships he can find here in Fresno, Las Vegas, and Laramie so we have a chance to be with family. There are lots of others he is applying to but that is where he would like to end up.
Aside from going to school he is also working in an assessment center 30 hours a week which keeps him incredibly busy.  He does some child therapy and lots of assessments.  He loves it though and I truly believe he is doing what makes him happy.  He can't wait to actually get paid for it! :)

I on the other hand am trying to find ways to stay busy.  I finish school in February with my Bachelors in Business Management/Accounting (HALLELUJAH!!!).  Until Jason finds out where his internship will be I will be holding off on starting my Masters.  If we end up in Salt Lake I will FINALLY get to go to the UofU.  I'm secretly hoping for that :) I am working part time for the company I left back in December as a contract employee helping them out with some things they need to get caught up on since I left.  Other than that I spend A LOT of time looking for a job and spend as much time as possible with my Liver and nephew Jonathan.  I don't think I'm up to much else...my life is pretty boring here in Fresno now that I'm not working all the time.

SO...now that we are done with that non-sense...here are 10 things that made me happy this week. (7.11 - 7.17)

    1. Free Slurpees at 7-11 on 7.11  (seriously...I could never live where there isn't a 7-11)
    2. Finishing my last silly class on 7.12 now I'm only taking accounting classes until Feb!
    3. Finding out that Lauren and Loralye are coming here this coming weekend!
    4. Catching up with an old friend (Matt Strunk) at the grocery store
    5. Being able to make Sunday dinner for Jason's family in preparation for Julie's surgery this morning
    6. Robb and Kari (and kids) having dinner at Grandma's next door so we could crash their party after our dinner
    7. Cleaning the oven (yes...really!)
    8. Friday night costco date with Aaron and Kristen
    9. Finding LOST on Netflix...i couldn't follow it with a week break between each episode and season breaks, but goodness back to back it's great!
    10. Michael's fiance Sarah playing a duet with Miriam Briggs in Sacrament.  Miriam on cello and Sarah on Cello.  Music...it does something for the soul! Especially in the form of a cello!
    11. A BONUS ONE THIS WEEK!!! Walking into Sacrament meeting and being surprised by seeing Neil in front of us!

We're back from the dark abyss...

and there is SO much to be thankful for. I would be incredibly remiss if I didn't share a little bit of what I am thankful for today and everyday.

** I did steal most of these pictures, I'm at my parents house and don't have many of my own pictures**

    I am thankful for...

Alex Christopher Mercado and the joy that he brought into our lives. He was a special boy.

Along with that I am thankful for my knowledge of the restoration and atonement. To know that Alex is with his Heavenly Father and will be with his family again brings incredible peace.

My handsome, wonderful, goofy, loving, caring, everything else you can name, husband.
My family who has always been there and I know always will be.
Jason's family, who is my own...who have done more for us than we could ever repay. I LOVE this family and couldn't think of a better one to marry into.
These two beautiful children who make all my bad days good just by looking at their smiling faces. My amazing friends. My sunbeams
    My car
    My job
    All of my extended family
Having so many beautiful children in my life
    My education
The dedication my husband has to his education
Kerman ward and the kindness they have shown us
The time I spent in Utah
    Music
    Drum Corps

I could go on but for now I shall end with that.

    Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

    Best Trip Ever!

We went to Vegas to see Aaron and Lauren and to meet baby Loralye Raylee Green.
She is perfect! I love her. I wish that I could be closer to them. I had so much fun seeing them and hanging out. And okay maybe I loved holding Loralye...but I promise it wasn't the only reason I had fun. Aaron and Lauren are adorable parents. I hope I am that in love with my kids. But after being around Loralye I don't doubt that I will be. SO in love with her.

Here she is sleeping after her blessing. She was so good! She didn't make a peep.
(look at that little nose...I LOVE IT!)
The happy family! Aren't they cute????
The whole Green family now! It's been awhile since we took one of these.
Everyone at the blessing. The Greens, the Calls and Laurens aunt and kids. I can't remember her name. I'm horrible i know. I'm sad the sun shifted while we were taking these.
Jason and a wide awake Loralye.
    Aunt Krista giving her loves.
Me trying to steal her away...but nobody would let me.
Giving her loves...I didn't want to give her up!
Aunt Cynthia and a trying to wake up Loralye

Okay so these are the only pictures we've taken in the past like 2 months. Well, some more pictures of Loralye, but I'm sure everyone has had enough.

On the Jason and Cynthia news front...We know we are either staying here in Utah or going to Fresno. Some stupid things happened with UNLV (if you want to know, you can ask) Jason has an interview at BYU next friday and then one at Alliant in Fresno the next Friday. I'm so nervous and excited at the same time. I think I am more nervous for him than anything. I will be sure to let everyone know as soon as we find out.

School is going good for the both of us. Jason is SO busy it's horrible and I am not too far behind. The lack of sleep has been giving me migranes. I haven't had ones this bad since high school. So i went to the doctor and she gave me a prescription for a fast acting medication and we'll see if that helps keep them under control. It usually is a domino effect. I get one and then I can't sleep and so I get another one a few days later from being so tired. I shall see.

Not much else is going on. We really do just work and go to school. So if something else exciting happens you all shall know.

    It's almost Christmas!

Things have been crazy around here so it's been a VERY long time since we updated. The next few weeks are going to be equally as crazy, but super fun. We went to Vegas for Thanksgiving with the families and it was super fun! However when we came home I got a cold and was sick until just a few days ago. But I finally kicked it. I was sick all through finals week and I took a test 5 days in a row. The semester finally ended and I got all A's :) I got the highest grade in my accounting class. I felt pretty good about myself. Jason doesn't have all his grades yet but he's pretty sure he got all A's too. We're just awesome like that. We finally got callings in our ward…a year and a half later. We were of course, called to the nursery. I was pretty excited. Yay for having kids to play with. We also are speaking next Sunday. Not so excited about that, but I’ll survive. Other than that we have just been working like crazy. It's pretty much what we always do. One day I did get a break from class and we watched Andy’s nieces. I had so much fun. They are adorable and we napped. It was truly glorious.

It won't stop snowing! It has snowed every day since Thursday. It has been ridiculous. And of course the cities are trying to save money on plowing so the roads are not cool at all. I hate going out. The past 2 winters here in Utah I didn't mind at all because I didn't worry much, but this year is crazy. Today I took Andy to the airport and it took me 2 HOURS to get home. It's normally like a 10 - 15 min drive on the freeway…but nope 2 hours. And I just slid down the hill to our house. It's pretty much a daily ritual now but, it's a good thing I was in Andy's car and not mine today. Mine doesn't like the snow much. So we always take Jason’s in the snow but he was at a lab thing. So yeah…my life has become one that revolves around the snow. I never thought I'd be that person, but this year the snow is so bad I just can't make myself go out unless I have to. Hopefully it gets it all out of its system before the semester starts again and then I will actually go to class. The last thing I need is to have the snow as a reason to skip class haha. Oi vey!

Anyways...we can't wait until Christmas (we both suck at surprises and like to give them away) and then on the 1st of Jan we're going to Vegas for a few days and then to Fresno for a few days. It will be so nice to have a vacation and get to spend some time with everyone. We have to work on Christmas, but since it's at night it's not too bad. We can still have Christmas morning together and then we make dinner and take our huge Christmas dinner to work. It's pretty fun actually.

Well here are some pictures of the snow (especially for you mom), our tree, our trip to Vegas and other random things.

This is the road in front of our apartment. It really is a road, I swear.
This is me standing in the 3 foot pile of snow.

    Jason surprised at the snow.

This is what used to be our grass. We made a walkway to the door.

This is one of our early presents from Jason parents. YAY!
Of course my tree topper is a silver star. :)
Our pretty tree with some presents

This is me when I stayed home sick. I was so bored. It was horrible
    Napping with the baby.
    Getting in daddy's car :)
Krista got a little bit worn out from our midnight shopping adventure on Black Friday and couldn't even make it all the way to bed.

    SNOW and halloween

It is officially cold. When we left work on Tuesday night at about 12:30am and it started snowing...and when we left for work at about 3:00pm on Wednesday it was snowing so hard you could barely see across the street. I am not thrilled. At least the roads were still warm enough, since 2 days ago it was in the 80's, that they didn't get icy. It was just really cold and I couldn't get bundled enough.

At work we had a cubicle decorating contest and each team got to do one. I did most of it myself. It took a good few hours. It was fun though. It turned out pretty cute. It was a cemetary and then we covered the top with butcher paper and poked holes for the stars. For the small amount of space we had I was pretty proud of myself. :)

We decided to carve a pumpkin this year. We did the fox logo and it turned out alright. The pumpkin seeds were the best part.
We went to a halloween party with Andy a few weeks ago and we were crash test dummies. I didn't want to have to think of something new. For some reason I think it's a whole lot creepier this time.

Other than this there hasn't been a lot going on. Just work and school like usual. Work is much better now that I have my voice back. Thank goodness for that. This semester is so close to over. It's crazy how quickly it has gone by. Jason is submitting all of his applications and getting his letters of reccomendation taken care of. So hopefully in March-ish we will know what will be happening come August. Oh my goodness...it's really crazy to not have a clue what will happen in 9 months but to know that everything is changing.

We are excited for Thanksgiving to get to see everyone. Too bad we don't get to see Aaron and Lauren or Aaron, Kristen and Jonathan, but we'll see them in January. Then we'll have lots more pictures.

So much time has past...so here are some pictures...

So the only really exciting thing lately has been lots of work...two 13 hour days last week. And then last weekend we went to Dusty's wedding in Steamboat Springs. It was beautiful!!!! And so was she. I wish I could hate her for being so perfect. :)

Me in my natural state. Just doing homework on the couch. Just don't mind the mess on the table. I have spent SO much time working and doing homework lately that I really feel like that's where i have lived. I just move to go to work and school and occasionally when I can find time.
This is my awesome team that I work with at work....minus Matt. This is Krista before the straightener (and eating a bagel...always eating a bagel)
    During the straightening...
So cute!!!! Finished! (only an hour later...)
The back definitely needs a trim, but it's still so cute! Zabrina just being so cute! Krista trying to keep her precious straight hair straight during the wedding. Russ giving Dusty away. The rain is pouring, yet Dusty is still gorgeous...tell me how that works. :)
    Dusty and Brian.
    The cake...Dusty made it herself.
    Dad and Amber dancing
Trying to stay awake by taking silly pictures.
Freezing! Trying to get warm by the fire.
    Gavin...just being so darn cute.
I think the putting green was Gavins favorite part of the day.
    He was a dancing machine!
Ricky and his true love. :)
